Loneliness Mitigation Centre

Because No One Should Age Alone

Loneliness among senior citizens is often invisible, yet deeply impactful. Many elders, especially from low income backgrounds, live with limited social interaction, emotional distress, and a lack of support systems.
Feelings of anxiety, fear, frustration, and isolation can gradually affect both mental and physical wellbeing, reducing overall quality of life.

Understanding the Need

For many seniors, ageing brings not just health challenges, but also social disconnection. Limited financial resources, loss of family support, and reduced mobility often leave them with:

  • Minimal social interaction
  • Declining emotional wellbeing
  • Lack of access to structured activities
  • Increased vulnerability to stress and anxiety

Without intervention, loneliness can become a serious barrier to healthy ageing.

Our Intervention

Dignity Foundation’s Loneliness Mitigation Centres are designed to create safe, inclusive, and engaging community spaces for senior citizens. We focus on rebuilding social connections and improving wellbeing through:

  • Structured group activities that encourage participation and engagement
  • Skill building sessions that promote confidence and active ageing
  • Peer interaction and networking, fostering a sense of belonging
  • Yoga, meditation, and exercises for physical and mental wellness
  • Psychosocial support to address emotional challenges

These centres are not just activity spaces, they are communities where elders feel seen, heard, and valued.

Who Can Benefit

  • Senior citizens from lower socio economic backgrounds
  • Elders experiencing loneliness, anxiety, or emotional distress
  • Individuals with limited social or family support systems
  • Those seeking a safe space for interaction, engagement, and wellbeing

Where We Work

Mumbai: Ananda Yaan E Moses, Byculla, Mazgaon, Meghwadi Centre
Pune Centres: Antule Nagar Leprosy Colony, Siddharth Nagar, Bhimnagar

How to Enrol

We conduct regular community need assessments and outreach drives in our intervention areas to identify and enrol senior citizens who can benefit from the programme. Member profiles are periodically reviewed to ensure continued support reaches those who need it most.

Why It Matters

Loneliness is not just an emotional state, it is a health risk. Creating opportunities for connection, participation, and support can significantly improve the overall wellbeing of senior citizens, helping them lead more active, confident, and fulfilling lives.
