Report on Dignity Dialogue's 17th Anniversary at BangaloreNew

A day for rejoicing… celebrating… and thanks giving…

Yes… It is the day where Bangaloreans witnessed their fellow seniors being honoured for their invaluable contribution through their articles that are not just informative but also thought provoking… What more to say about Dignity Dialogue… It is not just about Dignity Foundation being the pioneer to come up with an exclusive magazine for seniors, but it is all about encouraging active participation…

17 years journey…. Where to where? From recording in magazine to responding to the needs of seniors through the services of Dignity Foundation…

DD 17th anniversary at Bangalore happened on 8th Apr 12 from 3-6 pm at Pramila Bai BBMP Auditroium, Vijaya Nagar. Program started off with inauguration and welcome speech, followed by singing of Dignity Anthem by Dignitarians. His Holiness Amitasana Das Prabhu, Keynote speaker from ISKCON addressed the gathering about “Bhakti” and gave a taste of meditation, which was well appreciated. It was followed by the amazing performance by Mrs Manasi Prasad, who regaled us with her wonderful music. Mr H. Ravindra - Corporator, Vijayanagar congratulated DF for its services to seniors. Arrival of Actor Ramesh Aravind (DF brand ambassador) kept seniors’ enthuse at its peak. All authors from Bangalore were honoured by him and seniors loved the interaction with him.

The day concluded with seniors enjoying their refreshments.

Greetings from Dignity Foundation!

For 16 years, Dignity Foundation – a registered charity -- has been dedicated to empowering citizens aged 60+ to live productively. This is one segment that remains very neglected and generally not many NGOs have selected this sector for assistance and help.

Headquartered at Mumbai, the Foundation has Chapters spread across five other cities -- Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune and Goa -- and is managed by professionals in various fields.

We are very happy to share with you that Mr. Ramesh Aravind and Ms Tara, who are our brand ambassadors will be present on this ocassion with few other celebrities. This program will be graced by Mr. Harish Hande, Mr. Prahlad Mahishi, Mrs. Meenakshi Byregowda, Mr. Somanna- MLC, Mr H. Ravindra - Corporator, Vijayanagar to name few.

Annual day celebration of Hebbal Coffee Chavadi

Hebbal coffee chavadi had the annual get together on 28th march, 2012 at its centre, Shanti kuteer apartments. The guests were Mrs.Sandhya, Head -Bangalore Chapter and Mr. Varadarajan, Advisory Council Member. The programme started with the gathering of members from 3pm. It followed with prayer by Mrs.Usha.K and welcome speech by Mr.Sharma. Guest introduction was done by Mrs.Hema and felicitation by Mrs.Usha bhat and Mr.Shyam bhat. We had a talk by Mrs.Sandhya and Mr.Varadarajan who gave wonderful inputs of how to take the Dignity Foundation and chavadi activities forward. Then we had volunteers introduction by Mrs. Premalatha bhat and felicitation by Mr.Bimal bose. The dignitarians interacted with our guests. We had fun games and concluded the evening with high tea. The high light was we had a group photo session wherein our dignitarians can have a memory of their members and friends. Thank you all dignitarians who made it happen.

Sports Day Report

26th Feb 2012 Sunday: A week end and every one is enjoying the holiday. For Dignitarians it was day of fun and enjoyment. A nostalgia of their younger days.All fully charged gathered at BES College sports ground for Sports events at 9.30AM.

50-60 took part in various events organised.Programme started with Dignity Anthem followed by inaugural then the events for Men and Women Slow walking Race, Basket Ball,balancing the book,bucketing the ball,Queen of Sheba,bombing the city. The Hot sun didnot disturb their spirit. Doctor and the first Aid box had not work in front of their spirit of playing and urge to win the prizes.. All of them enjoyed thoroughly. The event was supported by Lioness Club-Sports wing and whole show was on sponsor ship.

At 4'clock it was time to wind up with Prize Distribution.

Helpline cases

Cases that come to Dignity Helpline are provided counselling, companionship, elder abuse, social support services, seeking medical help, etc.

Medical help: (All names are changed)

  • 65 years old physically challenged senior citizen Shyam Manohar (name changed) whose livelihood depend on harmonium playing, approached us for help for his wife's cataract surgery . We referred him to Vittala International Eye Hospital who readily agreed to do the surgery free of cost.
  • Velanappa - 69 years, took pre-retirement due to his fragile health condition. His only son, Keshavraj 31, was undergoing dialysis and was in the fourth stage of treatment at Bapuji hospital, Davanagere. He had very little stamina to withstand the pain, and the doctor had suggested he should get kidney transplantation at the earliest. Mother was willing to donate her kidney to save her only son and but the cost of it estimated at Rs.10 lakhs+. Dignity is trying to save Mr Keshavraj through appeal in Dignity Dialogue magazine and advocating the case to get funds from government and local philanthropists.

Dignity Foundation - Bengaluru Film Festival

Day 1: The Hindi film "Madhumathi", a Dilip Kumar-Vyjayanthimala-Pran starrer was screened at the Jayanagar Coffee Chavadi centre. It was attended by 75 Dignitarians.

Day 2: The same Hindi film Madhumathi was screened at the Vidyaranyapura Dignity Foundation Coffee Chavadi (VDFCC). It was attended by 35-40 Dignitarians.

Day 3: The English Musical Extravaganza of the 1960s 'THE SOUND OF MUSIC' was screened at the Jayanagar and the VDFCC centres. At the Jayanagar centre, around 75 people attended.
The popular actor of Kannada films and a resident of Vidyaranyapura, Sri Asoka Rao was the Guest of Honour at the VDFCC centre. It was attended by gathering of more than 30 senior citizens.
Refreshments were served to the attendees.

Day 4: The fourth day of the Jayanagar FF was inaugurated by senior Dignitarians Balasubramanyam and Mohanram. The film screened was "Chalti ka Naam Gaadi", a 1958 production. The cast consisted of the three famous artist brothers Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anoop Kumar, supported by Madhubala. The film drew a crowd of approximately 60 people.
The same film was screened at VDFCC. The members thoroughly enjoyed this Comedy and also its catchy tunes composed by Late S D Burman. The Guest of Honour was Mrs Meenakshi Krishna Byregowda, prominent social activist and wife of Sri Krishna Byregowda, the MLA from Byatrayanapura. She appreciated the wonderful activities of DF and as a well wisher of Dignity Foundation she felt happy to be associated with our activities.

Day 5: On the finale of the Film Festival, the old-time popular Kannada movie "School Master" starring BR Panthulu, MV Rajamma, Udayakumar, Balakrishna, Shivaji Ganesan and many more veterans of the Kannada film industry was screened at the Jayanagar Coffee Chavadi centre. It attracted a crowd of 40+ Dignitarians.
The same film was screened at the VDFCC also. There were three Guests of Honour—Mrs. Navaneetham, Director of Regency International Public School., a teacher and well-wisher of Dignity Foundation; Sri Shivaram, Retired High School Head Master from Chikkamagalur and our senior Dignitarian member who has achieved many laurels; and finally, Prof. Dr Ramanna, Director of NICE.

Dignitarians Participate in Walkathon

"Walkathon 11 - walk towards a healthy future and pledge for health", an event for senior citizens was organised by the Columbia Asia Hospital on July 31 in Bengaluru. It was a two-kilometre walk in which over five hundred senior citizens, including 150+ Dignitarians participated.

A pledging ceremony, health awareness talk, fun and entertainment programmes and refreshments were also organised as a part of this event.

Ration Service Extended to Bangalore

Dignity Foundation has extended its ration service to needy senior citizens at Bengaluru. The first donor to this programme is Tata Elxsi Limited, who has agreed to contribute ration worth Rs. 700 per month to 10 pairs of senior citizens for a year. Apart from this, some Dignitarians have also volunteered to donate Rs. 700 every month towards this initiative.

5th Coffee Chavadi Inauguration - Vidyaranayapuram

We inaugurated Dignity Coffee Chavadi 5th Centre at Vidyaranyapura (North-East of Bengaluru) on December 11, 2010

Mrs Nandini Srinivasa, Corporator-BBMP and Mr Srinivasa, Social Activist & Proprietor of Hoysala Earth Movers inaugurated the centre. While, Mr Rajesh renowned and veteran cine artist, also social activist and resident of Vidyaranyapura appreciated Dignity activities and emphasised the role of NGOs in promoting senior friendly services.

Dr S Ramanna, Director-NICE Centre and philanthropist, who has offered coffee chavadi space free of cost expressed his happiness for Dignity spreading its wings in Vidyaranyapura. Dr Ramanna volunteered to involve more with Dignity Foundation in promoting senior friendly services.
