Many also have vision problems and therefore cannot read though they would have loved to read. There are some who do not like reading but love listening to stories, news or anything interesting. And that's what made us start with Book Reading and we have in Roopa Kothari, a very patient and knowledgeable person, who, conducts these sessions which are very popular. Not only does she read out from books but makes the sessions interactive by having a quiz or a question answer session on the para that she reads from. These sessions are being held twice a month since December 2008. |

SNAKE AND ENVIRONMENT – SUNIL KADAM – 16 December, 2008 Sunil Kadam, a teacher by profession, works to protect and save the environment in his free time. He has this very strange fascination for the snakes and as part of the “Save our environment” he is working towards protecting the Snake species. He receives a number of calls from people in general, when they spot a snake in their locality. What he does is catches the snakes and takes them back to their homes, ie jungles or forests. To spread awareness about the same he visited Dignity Chai Masti with a number of snakes like the King Cobra, Dhaman, a non poisonous snake and many smaller snakes, one almost as small as an earthworm. He also explained the importance of each snake for eg the Dhaman is kept by farmers to keep away the rats who spoil the crop. Each of our members had a great time playing with all the snakes, putting them round their neck, clicking photographs with them. It was a great experience for them. |
