Title : Fine Dining for a Finer Living

Words : 1957

Abstract : In a new series we bring you up-to-date facts on what are good foods specific to your age and station in life. We'll mainly concentrate on foods commonly available and used in our country.

Call outs :

1)Can some foods make you smarter? Research shows that nuts and seeds just might boost your brainpower and balance your moods. That's right, everything from the most common nuts -- such as walnuts, hazelnuts, cashews and almonds -- to the more exotic seeds and nuts can clear up that "brain fog" and enable you to think clearer and be happier than you ever imagined.

2)Eating fresh apples is always good for you, but to get the full nutritional benefits associated with eating apples you should eat at least one fresh apple every day. Researchers are discovering new reasons to eat "An Apple a Day." Phytochemicals found in Apples may fight some types of cancers, help reduce cholesterol damage and promote healthy lungs. There is a very old saying:

'To eat an apple going to bed

Will make the doctor beg his bread.'

Variety is the spice of life: It's a tired cliché, but one that takes on new meaning when applied to the foods you eat. Many people associate healthy eating with proscriptive diets, the kind that tell you exactly what you can and cannot eat. The list of "good" foods is usually so limited that you're bound to raid the "bad" list sooner or later.

But not only is this way of eating self-defeating, it's also unhealthy. A truly healthy diet is one that encompasses a wide range of delicious and nutritious foods. Fortunately, nature provides enough of these that you need never get bored. More importantly for your health, eating many different types of foods vastly improves the chances that you'll get all the nutrients -- both known and yet-to-be-discovered -- that your body needs to prevent and fight disease and keep you functioning at your peak.

However, the choice is so wide, you can pick and choose the variety of foods discussed, depending on not only the different nutrients they have but also their availability in your region. The question of cost is an important factor and varies from individual to individual. Rest assured that there are both inexpensive as well as more expensive sources for all the nutrients and it is up to each of you to get a good balance suitable to your family's needs and budget.
