all villages in interior Maharashtra, villages
in Karjat, Mangaon, Neral in District Raighad
are most backward, lacking basic amenities. |
| Village
Mangaon has been adopted by Dignity Lifestyle
Township whose retired residents spend valuable
time in the development of various aspects
of life of villagers. |
| Last year the school
was the focus of attention where by provision
of equipment, blackboards, floor tiles, books,
uniform, computer, printer, stainless steel
vessels and serving dishes etc were gifted
at the request of the Head Master. |
Adult
education classes are being conducted by
residents of Dignity Lifestyle Township
as well as English speaking for young bys
and girls who are desirous of seeking job
opportunities in Mumbai. |

Based on this findings
Dignity lifestyle management and the residents shared
a common view to cater the needs of the school going
children. It’s very important that the every
child gets proper education in a healthy school environment.
The school should be equipped with the basic infrastructure
facility so as to motivate the children to get enrolled
and have a joyful learning. Since it was a felt need
from the school authorities, to develop the infrastructure
they approached Dignity with a list of thing required
for school. The list contend school uniform for the
Adivasi children, slates, note books, benches, computer,
printer, first Aid box, musical instruments. Floor
tiles to construct two new class rooms, television,
black board, school bags, utensils for mid day meal.
|
Dignity lifestyle fulfilled
the requirement by donating the above mention things
to school.
|
Since the school requirement
was met the next felt need was to help the women’s
to get empowered. Hence we started conducting meetings
with the women’s to understand their needs and
problems. The need for generating income was a common
felt need of these women’s. The second need
was to get literate.
|
To
cater this need one of our resident started adult literacy
classes in the village but the women’s found it
difficult to attend as they are busy in collecting woods
from the field for fuel arrangements for monsoon. |
To
cater the need of economic empowerment we are trying
to introduce micro credit finance. The woman’s
have already formed a bachat group through which the
internal loaning takes place. |
|
Dignity Lifestyle is planning
to provide medical facilities in the villages. Using
our own infrastructure, and making it mobile, it is
our aim to take services to the doorstep of villagers.
We have our Resident Medical Doctor, appointed for
taking care of residents, who will lead services in
the village.

| Why Ambulance is a crying
need now: |
The need for the ambulance was
being seen repeatedly when any resident had to be
taken to Hospital for consultation. The Management
and the staff try to contact the near-by ambulance
services, but unfortunately it was seen that there
was only one ambulance service, that caters to the
needs of more than 30 villages. The service is also
expensive. For instance the cost of transportation
of one individual to Ambani Hospital 25km far, the
charges are around Rs. 1000/- which comes to around
Rs. 33/- per Km. Also the availability of the Ambulance
is uncertain.
