Mobility being a major issue with the city's elderly, due to over crowding and congestion, senior
citizens are not able to commute to far off locations to avail of the services of the Foundation.
The idea of offering all the services of the Foundation to localities where senior citizens live was
put up to the Lions Club of Bombay Host, who were celebrating their 50 th year of completion
of their club in Feb 2006. Funds to a tune of Rs.25 lakhs were collected and with this a bus has
been donated.
A Counsellor and an Information Desk Officer would travel in the bus every working day offering
services such as: Second career - Job Counselling and Placement; Companionship - for lonely
senior citizens ; HELPLINE - a social support system for Elder Abuse; Security with Dignity -
network of protection to Elders who live alone; Senior Citizens Counselling Centre for advice in
Financial, consumer, tax ,legal, property matters; issuance of forms for Senior citizens ID card ;
offer of Loneliness Mitigation opportunities in the form of fortnightly bus trips and any number of
volunteer opportunities advertised on the posters adorning the glass panes on both sides of the
bus - inside and outside.
Media write ups being the only source of information for the poor and needy, we request you to
give coverage to BUS LAUNCH ON 12 TH AT 4 P.M. ON MARINE DRIVE.
