Title: Has the Budget Done Justice to the Seniors?

Words: 1337

Abstract: It's painful to realise that the Central Government doesn't really care for Senior Citizens. Often, many Senior Citizens witness their children not caring for them and now many witness the same attitude from "Mai Baap" - the mother and father of citizens - the Government of India, notes Narayan Varma , Chartered Accountant.

Call outs:

When any person subscribed to the GOI Bonds, the condition agreed by the Government was that no tax shall be deducted at source. Now the Government wants to breach this condition. Is it fair ethically? Is it legally permissible? Government can provide for TDS on Bonds being subscribed from March 1, 2007 , but should not deduct tax on interest on bonds issued till February 28, 2007 .

Great hopes Senior Citizens had from the Finance Minister, from the Finance Bill, 2007, some of which were penned by me in the March 2007 issue of Dignity Dialogue . In reality, very little has been done for Senior Citizens.
