Dignity Foundation Bangalore North Kicks of New Senior Citizen Life Enrichment Activities on 1 January, 2010

DF-Bangalore North Coffee Sanje (Bangalore version of "Chai Masti" in Mumbai) programmes started with a bang on New Year 2010 with a party followed by Republic day celebrations on January 26th.

Dignitarians ready for Warm up

Mr. Gokul Kadambi has this to say, "DF north is a happy place to meet old guys and chat up for sometime and enjoy the activities.This time is eagerly awaited. Throughout the day various other activities on hand which require mental and physical stress come 4pm we unwind for the next 2 hrs and be sure that you have a hearty dinner and a peaceful night."

Mr. Narasimhan, another Senior Dignitarian describes the activities thus, "All of us have been enjoying being together and also as part of a wider, meaningful lectures & interactions, yoga, Acupressure introduction and regular aerobics classes on Tuesdays. There was a very interesting session with a snake catcher who had brought a couple of cobras and let go one on the lawn and explained in detail as to how these creatures are harmless if not interfered with or trampled upon.

We had a very enjoyable New Year Celebrations in our centre on 1st January 2010 with a gathering about 35 people wherein youngsters mingled freely with the elders . All danced to the tune of music including 70+ seniors. The delicious refreshments were prepared at home by two of the lady members of Dignity Foundation namely, Smt. Padma Urs & Smt. Suguna was served on that happy occasion.

We celebrated our Republic Day on 26th January morning . The programme started with an invocation song and continued with a brief on the importance and significance of Republic Day. It was followed by a dance number by the elders and youngsters acting in tandem and combining well in a graceful and enthusiastic manner. The meeting concluded with refreshments served on that occasion.

We hope and wish to reach out to many, many other senior citizens living in other parts of North Bangalore and form a well knit and purposeful organisational network.

Background of DF Bengaluru-North

This centre was started in March 2009 by the initiative taken by Sri Shyama Bhatt and Sri Anne Gowda supported by Mr. Jayaprakash. The centre was taken forward by two enthusiastic women, namely, Ms Mamatha and Ms Ahalya Jhina in its formative days when it was required to meet under a tree to carry on activities. The centre shifted few places and currently it is functional at 1st floor of Shemrock School in Bhuvaneshwari Nagar.

Periodical Medical Camps held at the centre for the benefit of socially disadvantaged sections of the society. Visits to old age homes by a few members of which special mention to be made of Smt. Ahalya who has been constantly keeping in touch with the inmates and providing them solace
